What we are about

Thread Shed Armidale (TSA) is a textiles reuse, repair and refashion hub for residents of Armidale who want to learn to build their creative skills within a friendly, diverse community. We emphasise the use of secondhand textiles to reduce waste and human impact on the environment.

Our low-cost workshops, sewing lessons and informal social stitching gatherings empower participants to build their textiles skills and lead more creative lives while reducing their impact on the environment. We understand the mental health benefits of crafting, particularly within a community. We aim to foster feelings of belonging and inclusivity, believing that these will help Armidale residents build resilience for the future.

Teaching and learning at TSA are based on the premise that all participants are valuable, with skills and attributes from which we all can learn in a respectful, safe and relaxed environment.

We value inclusivity, diversity, integrity and service to others and we demonstrate these values as we welcome both new and old friends to join us at Thread Shed Armidale.

Respecting and caring for the environment are at the core of Thread Shed activities, where ethics of human care, earth care and fair share are applied to reducing material inputs and lowering carbon footprints.
